REVIEWS:

"Here is basic ammunition for all of us victims caught in the crossfire and fallout of Body Wars, their loved ones, and the many professionals who are helping them fight back. This valuable guide is user friendly, broad in scope, and filled with timely information and strategies."
Rita Freedman, Ph.D. author, BodyLove

"Margo Maine skillfully combines knowledge, passion, and her extensive experience as a model of activism to produce a clear set of active answers to the question, 'But what can anyone do about the culture of beauty and thinness?' I highly recommend this book to anyone who cares about the development of girls and better health for women and men."
— Michael Levine, Ph.D. co-author, Preventing Eating Disorders

"Each well-constructed chapter sets forth the challenge, equips us with strategies to implement change and supplies an extensive resource list for reference. Body Wars both teaches us the terms for engaging our opponents and that united efforts will win the war."
— Mary S. Pabst, M.S.W. President, Eating Disorders Awareness and Prevention

"The author suggests action plans for those who 'don't want to take it any more' by providing concise, pointed exercises that expose advertising propaganda for what it is. Her suggested solutions and detailed lists of resources are presented chapter by chapter, and are offered as tools that individuals fighting their own demons can use in daily battles. Dislike how you look? See the list of '25 Ways to Love Your Body.' Think you need to lose weight? Take the self-assessment test on 'What Really Happens When We Diet.' I particularly liked the sections on schools, sports, and ballet. For example, the section on sports offers a 'Mom and Pop Sports Attitude Quiz' and 'Questions About Coaches and Teams.' There's even a chapter for men. All in all, this is an extremely wise, and practical book."
