ABOUT THE AUTHORS:

Johanna Marie McShane, PhD, has been serving the eating disorders field for over eighteen years. After working at an inpatient facility, she went into private practice in 1994, guiding adolescents and adults who have eating disorders, as well as their families and significant others. She is co-developer of the Diablo Valley Family-Centered Model, a psychotherapeutic treatment model for working with families in which there is an eating disorder or related issue.

In addition to her work with families, Dr. McShane leads seminars for professionals and facilitates workshops for people who suffer from eating disorders. She has spoken extensively about causes and treatment of anorexia, bulimia, and binge-eating disorders, and regularly provides consultation for clinics, hospitals and private practitioners. She has published in Eating Disorders: The Journal of Treatment and Prevention, Eating Disorders Today, The Journal of Trauma and Dissociation, and other publications, and has made numerous television and radio appearances raising awareness about eating disorders.
